Built for the kind of holiday where everyone comes — two families, three generations, or a group of friends who've been meaning to do this for years. The villa sits in Benagil, minutes from the beaches and sea caves that draw people to this stretch of coast, and is split across a main house and its own self-contained cottage: togetherness when you want it, and a door to close when you don't. Between the two lies the reason everyone will remember the week — landscaped gardens, a heated pool with a water slide and waterfall, and an outdoor bar beside the BBQ.

Arriving

Private gates open onto a parking area with space for as many as ten cars — no negotiating who blocks whom, however many of you arrive and at whatever hour. WiFi reaches every corner of both buildings and the garden.

The cottage

Genuinely separate, with its own open-plan kitchen and living room, fully fitted with oven and hob, fridge-freezer, dishwasher and every small appliance and utensil you'd expect. Two air-conditioned bedrooms — one with twin singles, one with a king-size bed — share a bathroom with shower, WC and basin.

It's the answer to the perennial group-holiday problem: ideal for grandparents who like an early night, teenagers who don't, or a second family who'd rather make their own breakfast.

The main house

The hallway opens into a large living room with sofas, a TV and an arcade machine in its own corner — the sort of thing that quietly decides where the teenagers spend the evening. A generous open fireplace burns real wood, which makes this a house that works in winter as well as August.

Behind it sit the kitchen and dining room. The kitchen is equipped to cook properly for a crowd: a large range with hob and oven, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, a top-of-the-range Nespresso machine and all the small appliances and tools you'd want. The dining table seats eight. A laundry room alongside holds a washing machine and tumble dryer for guests.

Sleeping

Every bedroom in the main house has its own ensuite — four bedrooms, four bathrooms, no queues and no shared toothbrush politics. All are air-conditioned.

On the ground floor, one bedroom has a double bed, wardrobes and an ensuite of its own. On the far side of the house, a second has twin singles plus a sofa bed and generous wardrobe space, with a large ensuite behind it: bath, separate shower cubicle, double basins and WC.

Upstairs are the two master bedrooms, both with super-king beds and plenty of wardrobe space. One ensuite has a shower, basin and WC; the other adds double basins and a bath positioned to look out to the sea.

Outside

The gardens are properly landscaped and sweep around the house. At their centre, the heated pool comes with a water slide and a waterfall — the detail children will talk about all year — ringed by sunbeds for everyone else.

The BBQ area has its own bar, complete with beer pump (available at additional cost). It is, predictably, where everyone ends up.

The location

Benagil is one of the most striking spots on the Algarve coast: a small fishing cove beneath the cliffs, with the celebrated Algar de Benagil sea cave just around the headland and boat trips leaving from the beach itself. Praia da Marinha, among the most photographed beaches in Portugal, lies a short drive east, and the cliff-top Seven Hanging Valleys trail runs right past. Carvoeiro and its restaurants are close by for evenings out.
